Enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation utilizing synthetic Ca2+-zeolite for low ammonium

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, a low-ammonium enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation (LA-EICP) technique is proposed that utilizes the cation exchange capability of zeolite to remove ammonium, an environmentally harmful by-product urea hydrolysis. The LA-EICP process modified (EICP) suitable for soil stabilization, by mixing and resulting solution amounts calcium precipitated ammonium ions removed synthetic calcium-modified were analyzed through tube tests. addition, unconfined compressive strengths specimens measured compared investigate reinforcing effect LA-EICP. within specimen was also confirmed scanning electron microscope energy dispersive spectrometry analyses. results showed can precipitate same amount as conventional EICP, while removing almost all ions. LA-EICP-treated higher strength improvement than EICP-treated specimen, due combined zeolite.

Applicability of Natural Zeolite for NH-Forms Removal in Enzyme-Mediated Calcite Precipitation Technique

This study evaluated the applicability of natural zeolite for the removal of the NH-forms in the enzyme-mediated calcite precipitation technique. The natural zeolite of mordenite was added to prepared grouting solutions composed of urea and urease and mixed thoroughly using a rotation table for the mixing times of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 h. Then, the concentrations of evolving NH-forms in the solutio...

Size-dependent calcium carbonate precipitation induced microbiologically in aerobic granules

Calcium and ash accumulation in aerobic granules treating organic wastewater was investigated systematically in this study. It was found that ash content of granular sludge reached 43% at stable state of reactor operation with calcium carbonate precipitation as the main cause. Since granular sludge in the reactor at the steady state was the mixture of granules with different sizes, granules in ...

Neutralization of Formaldehyde Gas by Ammonium Bicarbonate and Ammonium Carbonate

Formaldehyde gas, generated by the depolymerization of paraformaldehyde and in the presence of water vapor, has been traditionally used for biological decontamination of equipment and spaces utilized for research with a susceptible biological agent. This gas has often been neutralized with ammonia gas, generated by the thermal decomposition of ammonium bicarbonate or ammonium carbonate. An elem...

Biological Influences on Seafloor Carbonate Precipitation

The sedimentary record reveals first-order changes in the locus of carbonate precipitation through time, documented in the decreasing abundance of carbonate precipitation on the seafloor. This pattern is most clearly recorded by the occurrence of seafloor carbonate crystal fans (bladed aragonite pseudomorphs neomorphosed to calcite or dolomite), which have a distinct temporal distribution, ubiq...

Synthesis of BiFeO3 by carbonate precipitation

Magnetoelectric multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) was synthesized by a simple carbonate precipitation technique of metal nitrate solutions. X-ray powder diffraction and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed that the precipitate consists of an intimate mixture of crystalline bismuth carbonate and an amorphous hydroxide of iron. The precipitate yielded BiFeO3 at an optimal calcination temperature of...
